Member Sara Komor gets her Multiengine Rating!

On 2/27 she passed her checkride out of KCDW flying with DPE Greg Hill. Congratulations Sara!

Our Chapter is very excited to announce that Sarah Crosby is our 2023 NJ99s Chapter Scholarship recipient! Sarah has been a very active member of our Chapter, not only has she volunteered to be our webmaster but most recently went above and beyond helping with our yearly Flyout Challenge fundraiser. Sarah is a career middle school teacher but has taken on extra jobs to help pay for her flight training. She is a waitress, works at Solberg on the ramp and helps with Fight School coordination. Sarah has been able to combine her love of flying with her love for teaching. She implemented aviation as part of the curriculum at her school and has started an aviation club.  Sarah plans on finishing her private pilot license by the end of December and will use the Scholarship to continue training for her instrument rating. Her ultimate goal is to become a Certified Flight Instructor - combining her love of teaching with her passion for flying!!

Emily Mailhot, just passed her 747 PIC Type Rating to become Atlas Air’s youngest female 747 FO! Emily was our Chapter’s 2017 Dodie Riach Memorial Scholarship awardee.

“Winning the Dodie Riach Scholarship truly changed my life. From that scholarship forward, I was fortunate enough to win multiple scholarships to continue flight training. Without those scholarships I never would have been able to get to where I am today, thank you so much to the 99's! Ladies, take advantage of these scholarships and work hard to achieve your goals!”

Congratulations Emily!

Professional Pilot Leadership Initiative Graduate

Annareka Akovity

The 99s Professional Pilot Leadership Initiative aims to accelerate the advancement of women in all pilot professions, facilitate mentoring, and enhance leadership roles within aviation. The Initiative provides highly motivated 99s with tools to develop their pilot careers and leadership skills through guided activities and formal mentoring partnerships with women professional pilots.

Through her path in the PPLI, Annareka devised and constructed a unique and creative Spring flyout for our chapter, in the midst of pandemic, when usual fundraising methods were a challenge. The “Spring Flyout Challenge” recruited aviators to join a self-guided flyout with the challenge to journey to 10 participating airports in 5 states in the span of one month. Her vision included a creative point system which required date-stamped and geotagged verification: This was an interactive element which became an engaging learning experience for both our Spring Flyout Challenge team and the participants. Event participants ranged from Maryland to Massachusetts and has been one of our most widely-attended and successful fundraisers.
